Pebbles in Your Pocket

We have all heard the saying at one time or another “he is throwing his weight around” or “he’s the heavyweight around the company” – this statement is not talkin’ about a person’s waist size but the power or the authority they have in a specific sphere. However, we can take a lesson or two from the mysterious causes of weight gain. Despite what most of us think, our weight gain does not happen overnight but over a period of time. The same can be said of our relationship with Jesus. A radical conversion or act of obedience doesn’t instantaneously create an intimate relationship with Him, in the same way a day without eating is going to cause you to instantaneously reach your target weight. Now pebbles are simple little things. By themselves they weigh very little but when combined with other pebbles their weight potential is only limited by the thing that is holding them. It is hard to comprehend that a small act of obedience done over and over can cause a person’s power and authority to increase. A common illustration to this point is the age-old question, how do you eat an elephant? The answer: one bite at a time. Every time we stop to pray, that’s another pebble in your pocket– Every time we pick up His Word, that’s another pebble in your pocket. Soon we will notice our “weight” has increased. The Bible says not to be blown around by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14), well when you are a 300lb behemoth of a believer nothing can move you from the destiny He has created for you! No matter how insignificant your act may seem in the whole grand scheme of life, He notices and He cares. Start today putting those Pebbles in your Pocket.
